The magazine, published for Edgars - targeting their young teen customers from 11 to 14, is fresh, 'phat' and happening. The A5 format publication is packed with celeb gossip, posters, music and movie reviews, giveaways and competitions with a strong core element of local fashion, fashion trends and international celebrity fashion focus.
Originally from East London, having studied journalism at PE Technikon, at 21, Matshikiza is attitude with a capital A. The youngest editor in the New Media group, she joined the group as an intern in 2003. Even the bright lights of etv could not lure her away (she interned there too) and when New Media offered her a position as editor she was "excited beyond words"!
Matshikiza oozes with freshness and vibe: "The youth market is an interesting and exciting target market. Young teens are constantly faced with many growing up issues, such as peer pressure. Even just dealing with emotions is an issue." She feels they need informative and entertaining publications that somehow understand and speak in their voice.
"I hope to allow Off-Limits to do just that: capture the essence of being a Mzansi teen," she concludes.
