SA Mining Stakeholders convene
This year's Lekgotla will be convened under the theme: Building on the contribution of mining since the advent of Democracy - The past we acknowledge and the future we build
The Mining Lekgotla is a premier mining sector think tank event and its principal objective is to provide a platform for strategic conversations between key stakeholders in the South African mining industry and other role-players.
Through the Lekgotla, key thought leaders of the mining sector interact to identify and confront critical issues, risks, social threats and opportunities that need to be understood and tackled to enable the industry to achieve optimal returns on investment in a manner that will serve the best medium and long-term interests of mining stakeholders and of all South Africans.
As part of ensuring that the discussions are inclusive and represent the broad stakeholders and key players within the sector, the Association for Mine and Construction Workers Union, (AMCU), Solidarity, UASA and SAMDA have been invited to participate in the panel discussions.
This year's Lekgotla happens with the backdrop of the country celebrating 20 years of democracy. Over the past two decades the mining sector has played a pivotal role by making a meaningful contribution towards the transformation of our socio-economic landscape. Despite progress made there remain challenges which require our combined efforts and commitment as labour, government, communities and employers to tackle patiently and decisively.
This year's programme will reflect on the past 20 years, celebrate our achievements, highlight the challenges that prevent growth, and align the Africa Mining Vision 2030 roadmap to the framework of the National Development Plan.
