British scientists to develop blood test for Alzheimer's

Researchers from Nottingham's two universities are joining forces to develop a simple blood test to diagnose Alzheimer's disease.

The study aimes to identify biomarkers in the blood that could be used to identify Alzheimer's disease. The disease is currently only diagnosed clinically and full identification relies on postmorten evidence of brain changes.

This leads to delays in diagnosis, and some researchers believe that early diagnosis would lead to better management and possibly cure.

The news of the study comes shortly before World Alzheimer's Day on Sunday September 21, which aims to raise awareness about the reality of living with dementia.
