South Africa surges ahead in international Promax Awards

Loerie-award winning animation house Masters & Savant has recently received seven nominations in the Promax Dubai & Promax Europe Awards, to be held in Dubai and Vienna respectively. Says Masters & Savant co-founder Roger Smythe, "The amount of nominations we have received communicates that the international community, be it the Middle East or Europe, recognise that South African motion design is among the best in the world."

Competing against companies such as Impact BBDO (Lebanon); Disney Channel Middle East (UK) and OPIUM effect (Germany), Masters & Savant has secured the highest amount of nominations for the entries in the Promax/BDA Arabia 2006 Awards. The South African animation company will be competing against such nominees at SKY TV and Cartoon Network within the two nomination categories in the European awards category.

Adds Smythe, "Within the CEMEA region, South Africa is continuing to represent the pinnacle of design excellence south of the Sahara. As the work done by South African animation houses and advertising agencies continue to achieve such high acclaim, we are certain to see a huge surge towards the adoption of new channel identity and advertising concepts requiring animation treatment.

"We are humbled that the judging panel saw it fit to award Masters & Savant with five nominations [for our Channel O, Kasi101, 180 Degrees campaigns], the highest amount of nominations to be awarded to a single company, which only one other company received - Orbit Communications Company Italy."

The Promax/BDA awards are recognised as the being one of the highest accolades within the world television channel promotion industry - an industry that services television channels to create high impact acceptance and promotion of television programming within the viewer.

"As a South African animation and channel branding house, we are exceptionally proud that the work that reflects true African iconic design has received such a warm reception by the Promax judging panel in both Arabia and Europe," concludes Smythe.
