Show profile Hide profileThemba Tswai is a self-taught Graphic Designer who grew up in Kagiso, West of Johannesburg. He had a hard time in school for 15 years as he couldn't attend a creative school as desired due to finance. He hated conventional schooling, because all he wanted to do was draw. After being in a creative space at Mona Lisa Primary he found it hard to adjust to a structured environment. It required him to attend classes and study certain streams he was not previously accustomed to.
Themba matriculated in 2013 and because his parents could not afford his tuition at TUT he opted for a job. He was extremely miserable at it and often felt like he was losing himself. He eventually quit his job to pursue a homemade career with a schedule and everything just to reclaim his identity. Themba began by making logos and personalised caps, attracting the attention of his current mentor who taught him the technical skills he required.
His ingenious determination lead him to online tutorials and he began making his own work, he says it was more of elevation than progress. Themba is hungry to learn. He found out about Umuzi on Facebook, applied online and didn't receive a call-back, he came to the interviews anyway. A true legend to the Umuzi Value take a risk! He quotes, "if you put your mind to something you will succeed". If there is one thing he wants to do is pursue his passion in developing South African youth.
