Andrea Bennett
My career in the tourism industry spans to almost 29 years. Commencing in retail travel, then continuing to sales; logistics; conferences, events & incentives arenas. I have worked in retail travel as a retail consultant as well as sales; the airline industry in the capacity of a consultant/sales executive and the conference & events arena in sales arena and as a meeting & incentives planner.
Show profile Hide profileI commenced my career in the retail travel industry in Johannesburg in 1986 as a receptionist and worked my way up to a senior travel consultant by the end of 1993 and during this time I moved to Cape Town. In early 1994 I joined Malaysia Airlines in the reservations department and then progressed into their sales department. I left Malaysia Airlines to further my sales career in the car rental industry to Europcar as a sales representative. I left them in late 1999 to become a partner in a Logistics company, FWR Consultants, that did transport management for conferences and incentives and we arranged 2 of our own conferences. I remained with FWR until the end of 2001. I then freelanced with another partner organising conferences for Global Conferences and Logistica Management Company until September 2002.
In late 2002 I joined Wagner Promotions (representing Air Canada and United Airlines) in the capacity of Sales Manager until March 2003. Thereafter I freelanced until September 2003 whereupon I joined Global Conferences on a 2 month contract to assist them with 2 of their large conferences. In November 2003 I joined Sure Youth Travel in the capacity of Branch Manager and remained with them until February 2006. I joined Confinitive on the 1 March 2006 to re-enter into the conference industry in the capacity sales and marketing.
In July 2009 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to stop work in March 2010 due to my treatment. In June 2010, I started working in a half day capacity at a physiotherapists practice in an administrative role.
I left the physiotherapy practice in September 2011 to rejoin my previous company in the capacity of Tenders & Sales Consultant for Embassy Travel.
In conclusion, my career spans approximately 29 years in the tourism industry, from retail consulting, sales and marketing, conferencing, events, incentive and transport logistics for conferences.
My passion lies in sales/events/conferences.
