SuperSport have acquired the rights to broadcast all the Formula 1 Grand Prix 'exclusively live' for the 2005 season. All practises and both qualifiers will also be broadcast, either live or delayed.

According to the research findings of a 2004 SuperSport study conducted by Research Surveys, motor sport is in the top five most watched sports in South Africa against all race groups.

The top three sports by population are: rugby, cricket and motor sports (white), soccer, wrestling, boxing (black), soccer, cricket, motor sport (Asian), soccer, cricket, rugby (coloured).

The SuperSport study also found that of all the DStv subscribers interviewed, 36% claimed to have watched Formula 1. Formula 1 viewership peaked at 50% across all DStv adults of all races, with 75% of the viewership taking place on SuperSport.

The 2004 Formula 1 airtime packages performed the best against an audience of DStv men, at 178.6 ARs. Measured against an audience of DStv adults in the R10 000+ income bracket, packages achieved 166.8 ARs.

Oracle Airtime Sales says this year's Formula 1 airtime package deals have been created to suit every budget. On offer are cost-effective options from packages of 114 spots through to 30 spots.
