Some of the programmes to be screened include Serengeti Today: As Seen on TV, The Witchdoctor's New Bride and Ugandan Safari: A Presidential Tour. "These are high quality documentaries in terms of content and techniques," explains John Begert, Head of Content and Marcomms for Discovery Networks Europe. "We have included programmes that make us relive past events and explore the hidden secrets of the African continent, thanks to detailed and realistic productions supported by the computer graphic and research."
"Discovery carries on keeping its commitment to localization by defining a product tailor made for an African audience" Begert adds. The Discovery Channel, owned by Discovery Communications, Inc. (DCI), is Europe's leading non-factual, entertainment channel. It now operates in 155 countries and territories with more than 1 billion cumulative subscribers.
The channel also hosts the annual "mini eco" Discovery Challenge for their various territories. The South African winners, Lize Sadie from Y&R Gitam, Martin MacGregor from Notabene and Richard Procter from FCB in Cape Town recently returned from taking up their prize in the Okavango Delta.
