Tito Mboweni becomes Honorary Professor at Wits

From 1 August 2015, Tito Mboweni, the former Governor of the South African Reserve Bank will join Wits University as an Honorary Professor in the School of Economic and Business Sciences. He was recently appointed to the Board of the New Development Bank (BRICS Bank) as a Non-Executive Director.

"I am delighted to be associated in such a meaningful way with Wits, its students and faculty. As one of the leading institutions located in the heart of the financial markets in South Africa and on the continent, Wits has an important contribution to make through its academic endeavours in these relevant areas," says Mboweni.

Probably best known as the former Governor of the Reserve Bank (1999-2009) and the Minister of Labour (1994-1998), he currently serves as an advisor to Goldman Sachs International. He is the Non-Executive Chairman of the Boards of Nampak, SacOil Holdings, Accelerate Property Fund and the African Center for Economic Transformation. He is a Non-Executive Director of Discovery and a Non-Executive Director of PPC. Mboweni is also a member of the Advisory Board of Total Oil Marketing's Strategic Consultative Committee for Africa and the Middle East and a member of the ANC's National Executive Committee. He has held several other noteworthy positions in the ANC and the private and public sectors.
