Memorial donations for Dr Ivan May: suggested organisations
According to the late Dr Ivan May's long-time friend, Sechaba Kitleli, many have asked as to which organisations they may donate to honour his memory. The names of four organisations were announced today, Tuesday, 11 January 2011.

- The Salvation Army
- The Wits Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics Home
- The Green Trust
- Radio Today
Donations should go to the account of the Radio Today, as he was a CEO at the time of his death on New Year's Eve in the Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg. Radio Today will distribute to the nominated recipients in sectors in which Dr May worked.

"Obviously, donations may also be made to other organisations in which Dr May was involved in," says Kitleli.
Public memorial assembly
A public memorial assembly of Dr May will be held at the Great Hall in Witwatersrand University from 3pm on Wednesday 19 January. The assembly will be addressed by speakers representing sectors of society which he supported during his life.
Born in Johannesburg, Dr Ivan Raymond May attended the King Edward VII School before going to the University of the Witwatersrand, from which institution he graduated with five degrees, including a Doctorate of Philosophy in 1974. He also held an associate professorship in the Faculty of Science.
At the time of his death, he was president of the Convocation of the University of the Witwatersrand, whose 100 000 members are spread throughout the world.
