Kevin Lennett has been appointed group chief executive officer, while Rena Engelbrecht takes over as managing director of The Crazy Store, effective 1 August 2026.

Lennett joined the Group in 2012 and has played a key role in the expansion of The Crazy Store, growing the retailer from around 200 stores to 537 stores across Southern Africa.

As group CEO, he will take on strategic responsibility across Melbro Group's portfolio, which includes The Crazy Store, 112-year-old wholesale business Heneck Sacks, Cash and Carry division Classic, and Melbro Brands, which distributes brands including Nutribullet and Ariete.

"Melbro Group has a proud history rooted in strong family foundations. I am excited to lead the group into its next chapter, working closely with our teams, Board and partners to build on this legacy while continuing to innovate and grow," says Lennett.

Experienced retail leadership

Engelbrecht brings 25 years of retail experience to her new role, including six years within Melbro Group.

Her career has spanned senior positions including marketing and sales executive, operations executive, general manager and retail director. She previously served as The Crazy Store's retail merchandise and marketing director.

Lennett says her experience across retail, combined with her knowledge of The Crazy Store, makes her well positioned to lead the retailer's next stage of growth.

"Rena has the relevant experience and passion to ensure the future growth of our business," he says. "Her deep understanding of who we are and how we operate, including her previous experience as The Crazy Store's retail merchandise and marketing director, combined with her track record across senior retail leadership roles, positions her ideally for a long and productive tenure."

The appointments bring together continuity and institutional knowledge with experienced retail leadership as Melbro Group looks to build on the growth of its businesses and strengthen its position across the Southern African market.
