Oasys gallops into Durban July

The company was responsible for supplying the entire electrical infrastructure for all the corporate marquees in ‘tent town' including a double storey marquee, emergency and general lighting on all the scaffolding towers as well as additional electrical infrastructure for all of the hospitality marquees on the Royal Durban golf course. Says Kevin Hughes, chief operating officer of Oasys Electrical: “We deployed two managers and a team of nine electricians two weeks prior to the race day to co-ordinate and install all necessary electrical infrastructure for the event.”

With an average of 56 000 people in attendance and the nature of this extravagant affair, strict criteria and protocol had to be adhered to. “Stringent health and safety regulations were essential. SANS 10142 compliance is non-negotiable. All equipment was checked by inspectors and engineers ensuring that all installations were of the highest standard,” says Hughes.

Included in the project were power points for the kitchen marquees to supply power to all the catering equipment, air-conditioning and general lighting. All power for the event was connected through mains power as well as generators to ensure an uninterrupted source of power for the event.
