Savanna donated one ton of meat to the FoodBank for Braai Day to ensure that less fortunate South Africans also have the chance to celebrate SA culture on Heritage Day. The meat was grilled at a Braai Day music festival at Hamiltons Rugby Club in Green Point – Savanna braai master, Oberon Moolman, had some help from Jan Braai (Braai Day), Pierre Greeff (lead singer of Die Heuwels Fantasties) and Lizanne Peters (Savanna Junior Brand Manager).

Quirk Digital Agency, creator of the brand's 'Adopt-a-Chop' campaign explains the rollout. "Housed on Savanna's Facebook Page, we created the Adopt a Chop initiative to give these chops their five seconds of fame and spread the word about the important role they have to play," says Sarah Manners from Quirk.

By adopting a chop on the Facebook page, South Africans were able to watch their chops go through the motions of being marinated, grilled and finally becoming a meal to someone in need.

On Braai Day, when the poster chops all had homes, Savanna delivered one ton of meat and another ton of rice and vegetables to FoodBank to ensure that many South Africans in need enjoyed National Braai Day. The donation will feed approximately 40 000 people - the meals will be distributed to NGOs across the Western Cape by the FoodBank.

Braai lovers attending the event enjoyed boerewors rolls and ice cold Savanna, while being entertained by some of South Africa's best musical acts - Die Heuwels Fantasties, Jack Parow, Mi Casa, Bed on Bricks Me and Mr Brown.
