Kauai donates to CANSA with new smoothies

R2 from each sale of Kauai's new Upbeet Berry Smoothie, which promotes healthy skin from the inside out, will go to Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), as part of both organisations' bid to make more South Africans be good to their skin this summer.

"When CANSA approached us with the idea to partner for summer, we started working on the smoothie," says John Berry, founder and chief innovations officer at Kauai. "We chose the ingredients for the smoothie primarily based on their ability to promote healthy skin. Blueberries, strawberries and blackberries, pomegranate juice and freshly squeezed beetroot juice, were all chosen because of their high antioxidant concentrations. Antioxidants protect ones skin against cell damage caused by free radicals and help to combat the deterioration caused by sun damage and aging. We added low fat frozen yoghurt because of its high Vitamin A content without all of the unnecessary fats. Besides being another important antioxidant, Vitamin A also promotes healthy skin through the development and maintenance of epithelial cells."

Kauai brand ambassador Roxy Louw and her father, ex-Springbok Rugby player and skin cancer survivor, Rob Louw support this partnership.

CANSA is urging the public to help them save lives by signing its petition to ban tanning beds for under 18-year olds. Skin cancer is one of the most common form of cancers in South Africa and risk levels for South Africans are amongst the highest worldwide with melanoma (the most deadly type of skin cancer) on the rise.
