Manufacturing brand makeovers
The brands were re-launched across all lines. Nampak Cartons and Labels was involved from the beginning and worked closely with the design agencies, namely Fountainhead and M&A Design, which are based in Cape Town. During the creative process, the division prepared digital proofs to illustrate the finished results and introduced the customer to a number of new concepts, including UV matt and gloss varnish that passes through the press in one pass, as well as normal and blind embossing.
The packs were manufactured at two plants, using the latest technology - the KBA Rapida 105 six-colour printer in Denver and the Roland 708 eight-colour printer in Epping.
According to the national marketing manager of Nampak Cartons and Labels, Ian Vowles, the matt and gloss varnish has really added a new dimension to the packs and has been done on the latest technology.
The Bakers Biscuits packaging was updated to include new graphics and a larger, more cheerful Bakersman logo. UV matt and gloss varnish was applied to the cartons of Romany Creams, Choc-Kits, Nuttikrust, Royal Creams, Boudoir and Strawberry Whirls. Normal varnish was applied to Eet-Sum-Mor, Choice, Jolly Jammers and finger biscuits.
The Pyotts packs received new graphics and a normal varnish. The Pyotts Crackerbread cartons were also embossed.
The brands were re-launched in 2008 and were accompanied by extensive above-the-line advertising and in-store campaigns.
