Premium white launches with blank price tag

Pieter Walser, owner/winemaker of the innovative internet wine brand, BLANKbottle, has just released his first premium white blend without a price. His 14th and latest wine, the 'Moment of Silence', is a wooded blend of Chardonnay, Chenin blanc and Viognier.

“Instead of setting its price, I decided to let my loyal clients decide," explains Walser. "I sent out 20 cases of 'Moment of Silence' without payment or price, leaving it up to them to pay me what they thought its worth! Pricing suggestions reached up to R70, and most were prepared to pay around R50 a bottle. As BLANKbottle was created to over-deliver on quality, I set the final price at R40."

As with his previous wines, this premium white comes fully labeled and packaged according to brand's high standards, but leaves consumers in the dark about the cultivar and year of vintage. To uncover the lineage of this or any of his other wines, visit his website for the full story behind BLANKbottle™.

Walser forms alliances with winemakers, wineries and vineyards all over South Africa, identifying premium terroir in order to create interesting blends. Pieter's wines could hail from anywhere in South Africa, with the lineage of existing and past blends tracing back to places such as Hermanus, Robertson, Helderberg, Paarl, Wellington, Durbanville and Stellenbosch.

'Moment of Silence' won't be found in any wine shop as Walser sells all his creations straight to the consumer mainly via the website www.blankbottle.co.za.

Tasting notes: Huge overwhelming citrus and guava on the nose, well wooded. On the palate the wine explodes with citrus, apricot, guava and a hot spice aftertaste. It's bold, full bodied and leaves the palate with an overwhelming abundance of flavour. The wine is big, but in perfect balance.
