Roxton by Brampton wines takes the bull by the horns
Brampton wines have produced an exciting new red blend named Roxton – to be the flagship of the Brampton wine portfolio. With a tantalising and uniquely arty label, the flair of the brand is highlighted from the first impression.
The Brampton brand was born and named after an award-winning bull. The original “Roxton” was also a pedigreed bull that was shipped from the UK in the 1950s. This stud animal inspires and enriches the legacy of Brampton wines. Roxton 2013 is a blend of Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Malbec - wine of Origin Stellenbosch.
Just Design was approached by Brampton to envisage a label for the wine that would encapsulate the essence of a strong, robust bull, while simultaneously expressing creativity, which is the essence of the Brampton brand.
With the brief in hand, Just Design’s goal was to creatively capture the Roxton bull. The sturdiness of this serious red was considered and the label reflects this through to the finishing touches. The label features an illustration of the bull in washes of ink, the loose flowing lines offset against small intricate detail. The splashes of ink on the label exude energy, appearing almost as if the bull will burst to life. The energetic movement of the bull in a full-throttle pose of leaping forwards adds dynamism and an overall feeling of grandeur.
The wordmark “Roxton” was hand drawn in pen and ink. The label has a parchment effect with a texture embossing and a torn edge finish. The objective was for the pack itself to become a work of art. The label, the artist’s canvas. Just Design collaborated with South African artist Audrey Anderson who has signed the label. The bottle itself is broad-shouldered and sturdy, suited to a powerful masculine expression. The embossed “B” symbol, which subtly references a cattle brand, stamps the endorsement by Brampton. Bright copper foil adds a classy finishing touch to a very strong sturdy pack, which successfully bridges the gap between robust toughness and the beauty of creativity.
The wine launched in April 2016 and will be sold in restaurants at around R150 per bottle.
About the brand:
Brampton is well liked and enjoyed by the wine drinking consumer. Brampton orientates itself around the celebration of creativity. With this at the heart of the brand, all brand touch points signify a creative output. The Brampton Wine Studios situated in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are arty and fun to visit. The studios are decorated with chalk drawings, wine quotes, glass chalking and photo adorned chandeliers that add to the overall air of a passion for wine conveyed through artistic endeavour.
