Oh Mama, what a drama! The Hawks spokesman McIntosh Polela got ambushed somewhat when the mother of two of his six children called in while he was on 702 and promptly laid into him for allegedly not keeping up with maintenance payments. At the time, Polela was engaged in a telephonic interview with 702's Talk At Nine host, Eusebius McKaiser. She stayed only nine months or so, but now Sbu Mpungose has called it quits and resigned as editor of Cosmopolitan. As usual, neither side is saying too much on the "why?" Still on magazines and newspapers, for that matter - could apps save the publishing industry?Back at the ASA, Kate O' Regan has replaced Mervyn King as ASA president. Prof Mervyn King SC will be retiring from the ASA. O' Regan was one of the first judges of the South African Constitutional Court and has a strong background and profile within the South African law community. OK, you were wondering, weren't you? What's a Loerie really made of? Chris Gotz reckons it's a great deal more than simply the object you wave about proudly when you win it. [Chris Gotz] Sometime in 1998 I found myself sitting on the roof of a bar in Rocky Street in Yeoville, Joburg. Perched on beer crates, my art director and I were surrounded by a large ring of people. [Paul Fick] The internet has empowered customers to easily and instantly analyse, compare, search and research products, prices and brands before making a purchasing decision. This has significantly changed the customer-company relationship. Customers now demand instant attention, and if they are not satisfied, obtain good service or the product quality is poor, this knowledge will immediately be shared with their peers via a variety of media channels. Branding
[Mike Taberner] I meet companies on a regular basis that seem to confuse their product with their brand. They have this notion that producing better quality, better priced or cooler looking products is their brand. Still other companies talk of their service offerings as if they were their brand. Sure, having a great product and/or service certainly will help your brand, but, it is not your brand. Read more >>

[Michael Gullan] Gamification is a digital term that means bringing some of the mechanics and concepts of gaming into brand content. [Jaroslav Cerny] Economic conditions are a very pressing challenge for organisations of all sizes around the world, resulting in squeezed budgets. One such area is IT. As a result, many organisations are turning to outsourcing as a business model, as it offers savings, flexibility, scalability and the ability to access resources on demand rather than having to hire them full time. However, as a result of the unique conditions in South Africa which include a massive skills shortage, and in an effort to save money, some organisations are turning to temporary staffing solutions to fill critical posts. This can be a costly mistake. Read more >>
