Understanding the orchestra

Have you ever wondered if the guy playing the cymbals or the triangle (and seemingly doing very little) gets paid the same as the busy violinists in the front row? How about what the slide on a trombone actually does? Well, these and many other questions will be answered at Cape Town's Fugard Theatre on 19 September.
Understanding the orchestra

"All you wanted to know about the orchestra but were too afraid to ask" will be hosted by radio personality Rodney Trudgeon and constructed around questions from you. (Listen out for the advertising campaign on Fine Music Radio 101.3 and 94.7 Highveld Stereo to submit your questions.) The focus will be on brass and percussion music with members of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra on hand to demonstrate how their instruments enhance the unique sound of symphonic music.

Tickets are available from Computicket. Discounts are offered to all Friends of the Fugard, which you can sign up for by going to www.thefugard.com
