The National Consumer Commissioner Mamodupi Mohlala has served telecommunications service providers with compliance notices after they refused to amend their customer contracts or explain their call rates. This is according to an article published in Business Report.

The article says that by signing the notices, operators would be legally bound to comply and could face liability claims from consumers.

It says that so far only Neotel had agreed to amend its contracts and as a result in had not been served with a compliance notice.

Mohlala warned that if the phone companies failed to consent to the amendments, she would take the matter to the National Consumer Tribunal and argue for sanctions against them in the form of 10% of annual revenue.
