Entries open for the Twilight Team Run

Entries are open for the annual Twilight Team Run, which is to be held on 2 December at The Grand Parade, Cape Town, and is the signature event of the Community Chest of the Western Cape.

This is a run at which no winner is declared and no medals awarded - there isn't even an official timekeeper. At the Twilight Team Run the idea of dressing up has eclipsed any athletic pretensions the event may once have had. In fact prizes are awarded for the best outfit rather than the fastest run. Company directors line up alongside refuse workers and accountants compete with nurses, factory workers and cleaners to get their outfits noticed.

Community Chest CEO Lorenzo Davids praised all the participants, who come from all over the Western Cape, for their extraordinary support for the Twilight Run. "The Twilight run encourages people from all walks of life and celebrates the rich diversity of the Western Cape," he said. "It inspires us all to take action and pledge to come together at this event for fun-and for the greater good."

Last year more than 20,000 people turned up for the party and the Community Chest raised more than R700,000.

Judging of the best-dressed teams starts at 5pm and the run starts at 7pm. Cost for entry into the run is R200 per team, minimum four, maximum six individuals. R50 per individual.
