Mediclinic CEO to retire

After more than 30 years with the company, and almost eight at the helm, Mediclinic International's chief executive, Danie Meintjes has announced he will retire by 31 July 2018.

The nomination committee will begin a search to identify a successor, to facilitate a smooth transition.

Meintjes (aged 61) joined the group in 1985 as the hospital manager of Mediclinic Sandton. He became a member of Mediclinic International Limited’s executive committee in 1995 and a director in 1996.

He was instrumental in getting the private hospital group’s Middle Eastern operations off the ground, when he was seconded to Dubai in 2006 and appointed as the CEO of Mediclinic Middle East in 2007. He returned to South Africa to become CEO of Mediclinic International Limited in 2010.

Following its amalgamation with Al Noor Hospitals Group plc, Meintjes became chief executive officer of the enlarged group in February 2016.
