Sowetan must apologise to Zille - press ombudsman

NEWSWATCH: Sowetan has been ordered to apologise to DA leader Helen Zille for an editorial it published on 28 January, reports IOL and, oh dear, the ANCYL is in a tizzy and wants Gareth Cliff fired after the Idols judge said that the youth of Limpopo are a no-talent bunch. Meanwhile, Channel24 and looklocal report 94.7 Highveld Stereo DJ Paul Rotherham was unexpectedly fired on Tuesday - but the question on many people's lips is... Why?

  • IOL: Sowetan ordered to apologise to Zille... A bit of Retief relief for Zille after the deputy press ombudsman found that the Sowetan should say sorry to the DA leader.

  • Channel24: Highveld DJ unexpectedly sacked... 94.7 Highveld Stereo apparently decided they can get along without DJ Paul Rotherham and fired him on Tuesday, but the question is... Why? According to looklocal, the reasons for Paul Rotherham's dismissal still a bit of a mystery. Rotherham, naturally, is not happy and wants everyone to know it.

  • IOL: Fire Gareth Cliff - ANCYL... The "Judge Dread" of Idols has got up a certain organisation's nose for saying the people of Polokwane, that pulsating metropolis of the north, may be charming but they are sadly lacking... well, totally lacking, actually... when it comes to talent. The ANCYL in turn has called for Cliff to be canned (they'd probably like to see him caned as well, for good measure) for what they say is "defocusing" the province's youth. ANCYL provincial secretary Jacob Lebogo is quoted as saying: "The future of young aspiring artists lies in the lazy hands of a madman." Hmmm... There are perhaps many people who reckon there's another bunch of youngsters whose future lies in the "lazy hands of a madman".
