Challenging children conference attracts world renowned speakers

If you are a parent, or if you have a patient or a learner with Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, ADHD or a related disorder don't miss the Challenging Children Conference to be held in Joburg on 19 and 20 July. It's an opportunity to access the latest research and developments in the field.

Until recently, Autism and related disorders were considered lifelong disabilities but this is no longer valid. These disorders are both treatable and often curable. The speakers will present case histories to prove this.

Both presenters are at the forefront of the latest research and developments in the field. Dr Doreen Granpeesheh, a psychologist is recognised as one of the world's most prominent experts in autism treatment. She has appeared on the Dr Phil show and numerous other TV programmes. Dr Jeff Bradstreet is internationally recognised as a lecturer and researcher in Autism. He has commented in Time Magazine and has been interviewed by CNN.

The focus of the conference will be on medical treatments and educational interventions for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder including PDD, ADHD and related disorders.

Today autism spectrum disorders affect approximately one in every 166 children in the United States; they are more common than Down's Syndrome, spina bifida, childhood cancer and cystic fibrosis combined. As a result, the medical profession, parents and educators are increasingly faced with providing care to children with this complex of disorders.
Psychotropic drugs however do not treat the problem — they simply reduce or eliminate some of the symptoms. The aim is to address the underlying health problems. The guiding principle is to remove what is causing harm, and add what is missing. The conference will explore the options available.
Professionals will be accredited with CPD points for attending this course. Speakers will address both parents and professionals, at a level appropriate to them.
