The inaugural Footprint Awards will be held in Cape Town later this year at the African Congress of Shopping Centres' annual conference, and will see the leaders in shopping centre marketing putting their best foot forward and reaping the rewards for all their hard work during the year.
The shopping centre industry in South Africa is one of the most sophisticated in the world. Thanks to the marketing departments, consultants and companies from the centre, there has been a remarkable development in the industry, thereby gaining the support from developers and retailers.
The Footprint Marketing Awards will honour outstanding achievements made by marketers in the Shopping Centre Industry, stimulating a competitive spirit and an environment of creative challenge within the marketing industry.
The Awards will target shopping centre marketing directors, in-house marketing or PR staff based at the centres who have designed and implemented a successful marketing campaign as well as advertising agencies, consulting firms and other support companies who have implemented a campaign on behalf of a shopping centre. The awards will go to the centres rather than their marketing or advertising consultants.
Various categories have been identified to eliminate the possibility of a small shopping centre with limited budget competing with a large shopping centre with unlimited budget. The entry criteria of the awards have been based on the same principles of the International Council of Shopping Centres Maxi Awards, which takes place in the United States.
