Don't make these mistakes It's a truism of business that we learn more from our mistakes than from our successes and since we're all fallible human beings, mistakes happen - so it can't do any harm to point out again, the marketing mistakes every entrepreneur should avoid. One of the roles of a prison system is to rehabilitate the incarcerated, right? So you'd think that the Department of Correctional Services would do all it could to ensure training programmes are unhindered? Well, if the claims made by Marius Boaden, founder and CEO of Prison Broadcasting Network are correct, then he's right to cry foul. On the advertising front, Caxton is fronting up to advertising challenges and expects to achieve modest growth in earnings in the forthcoming year amid advertising migrating from print to platforms such as digital and broadcast. Aki Kalliatakis asks, 'Are we customer-driven?' It tends to boil down to a simple answer, but one that is not that easy to achieve - know your customer. Finally, Harish Lala reckons that CloSoMo is the next Big Thing as we embrace the big three disruptive technologies - cloud, social media and mobile - in an integrated fashion. [Helen Janse van Rensburg and Pieter Kok] Prices ending in 99c and extended payment plans are both examples of how marketers have instinctively been taking advantage of behavioural economics - long before the term has even officially been coined and turned into a science. [Vanita 'Bezi Phiri] I've been exposed to a myriad of advertising campaigns that are inspiring in terms of creativity, but essentially poor in selling the product they're advertising. It explains why ad agencies lose accounts that have won them prestigious awards. A lot of ads may get the audience's attention, and perhaps even entertain them, yet they fail to drive them as consumers: the worst example being clever ads whose products the audience forgets.
