My name is Dewandre Derrin Lawrence. I am a 22 year old male, completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Psychology and Media Studies as a 3rd year student. Through my developmental stages, I have learnt to acquire and integrate my academic and social environment as a continuous platform of knowledge needed to succeed in life. With the aid of my secondary and tertiary education, I believe that I am equipped to acquire and integrate another important aspect of life. That is, making a change through practice beyond myself. The focus on employment and the goal attainment of myself, has transgressed into what I would want to become: one that incorporates an organisation.
My degree provides me with the potential to belong to a well established and structured organisation, but I believe it takes more than just academic theory to exercise in this context. I have gained motivation beyond my books, satisfaction beyond my academic records and knowledge relating to organisational cultures. Thus, I committed myself to having obtained a variety of skills and tasks that allows me to expand beyond my expected requirements. As a beginner, I realise that I have to start at the bottom. This serves as an encouragement to me. I can take on the challenge and promote hard work based on job involvement, interdependence and adaptability.
The difference between me and another graduate is that I believe in myself and beyond that, I believe in the structures I commit myself too. I am realistic and participate in team work and work activities outside of job requirements. I can adjust to change, which is an essential component of organisational effectiveness. I acknowledge that success lies in profits, organisational cultures and working relationships. My degree might put me at an advantage but, it is my personal traits and characteristics that make me valuable to any organisation. I am not fearful to speak and represent my ideas to other members or in team presentations. As a member of the youth, I would appreciate the opportunity to be a part of generational history in the democratic nation of South Africa.
