The Khumo Group specialises in economic development, foreign market entry and nation branding strategies. We advise governments, private and public sector institutions, NGOs and investors. Through our strategic partnerships, Khumo drives economic growth within Africa and between Africa and South East Asia. We work with emerging and emerged markets facilitating clients' commercial interests and investments in Africa. We help our clients to manage the often complex relationships with relevant stakeholders.
Prior to Khumo, Vuyelwa was the co-Director of Marketing at Brand South Africa (previously the International Marketing Council of South Africa). She worked closely with South Africa's Department of Trade and Industry to strategically position SA as an attractive destination for FDI and trade. This included strengthening credentials of South Africa's economic sectors and devising value propositions to grow the SA economy.
As Senior Strategist, Vuyelwa led the development of Brand South Africa's global strategy. Credited for pioneering an unprecedented initiative to align Brand SA's biggest sub-brands: Trade & Investment (Business) and Tourism, she contributed to unify SA's global positioning thus maximise the country's overall reputation and economic competitiveness.
She was the Global Brand Strategist for the MTN Group. Her responsibilities included developing brand/marketing strategies and ensuring their accurate translation and effective implementation across MTN's footprint of 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East. She managed key projects to build MTN and strengthen its position as Africa's first and (currently) only, truly global brand.
Vuyelwa has also occupied various positions within Unilever companies (Fast Moving Consumer Goods). With roles spanning international, Africa, Middle East and Latin America, she has solid emerging markets experience working on renowned global, regional and local brands.
Vuyelwa Nyakaza is also the co-founder and Executive Director of Liphetoho Premium Holdings; a pan African trade and investment company that has interests in manufacturing and marketing in Agro-processing, Shoes and Leather Products, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Packaging sectors.
She sits on the Boards of the Vuka Africa Foundation and Vuyo's Restaurants. A Master's in Social Anthropology from the University of London (SOAS) and a Marketing degree from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology include Vuyelwa's formal qualifications.
She is passionate about African development, leadership, ethics and entrepreneurship.
