EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
2006 - 2007: Author and Illustrator for Nutrend Publishers
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
My job entailed conceptualizing and producing foundation phase educational books and other material. My work also included designing all illustrations and layout for their books. This environment further sharpened my skills of communicating and working on tight schedules and deadlines. I also acquired knowledge and understanding of the Outcomes -based Education ( National Curriculum Statement ).During my term at Nutrend Publishers I was fortunate enough to be part of a team that produced a successful series of foundation phase NCS readers, which went on to be one of the favorites among primary school learners around Kwazulu/Natal and Eastern Cape Provinces. One of the readers was once even read in a radio programme at Umhlobo Wenene FM.
2008 - 2009: Author and Graphic designer for Thalina Enterprise
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
As a producer of educational books and other materials, Thalina Enterprise used me as an in-house graphic designer. I designed all artworks and layout for their books. I prepared their manuscripts by means of proof reading, translating and editing, and also got them ready to go to print. During my term of employment at Thalina I became used to working under extreme pressure because the company often received requests to produce materials within a very short space of time. I perfected my communication skills because I consulted with many clients who needed artwork for their manuscripts. In my line of work I often met clients who had an idea of what they wanted, and it was my job to articulate what they wanted and communicate it to them. My skills of persuasion and marketing were sharpened.
2009 (Feb) - 2009 (June): Contract Graphic designer for Railways Safety Regulator
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
During my term at Thalina Enterprise (above), I was contracted shortly by the Railways Safety Regulator to assist in putting together graphic designs for their safety magazines. The period was characterized by long hours - early mornings and late nights. It was necessary to be a good team player because getting magazines ready at short notice entailed team effort. The fact that I had good relations with Thalina employers made it possible for me to expand my experience in graphic design work.
