Rudo Botha
Brand Specialist at REX
Show profile Hide profileRudo graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in Visual Arts & Information Design. His career started with specialist design companies in South Africa, including FCB Design. Very soon, Rudo started working towards realizing a completely integrated business model between FCB Design and the other business units within the FCB group.
2002 saw Rudo establish Trinity, a strategic design consultancy. After six months the partners accepted an amalgamation offer from Interbrand, which saw Rudo join Interbrand Johannesburg as creative director, in 2003.
In July 2004, Rudo joined forces with long-time creative comrade, Olivier Schildt, to start REX. Their complimentary skills and shared passion has seen REX grow into a branding and design company, respected for the iconic branding interventions they are able to deliver.
Rudo is an enthused proponent for the role design has to play in society and business. His thoughts on the value of the discipline have been expressed in the titles of talks like, 'the Return-on-Inspiration' and 'Nothing matters more than, What If?'
Rudo has developed branding & design solutions in almost every industry sector, proving his versatility and his curiosity. His portfolio includes First National Bank, Coca~Cola, SAB, Sasol, FCB Worldwide, Markinor, and Unilever.
Rudo is a guest lecturer on the subject of design strategy at the University of Pretoria, The University of Johannesburg and Vega Brand School. He has been a participant of the South African Graphic Design Council's executive committee.
The other great passion in his life is the bush. This means that dams, live game, dogs & trees keep him well occupied when he is not working on brands. His Achilles heel has to be his wife, his son and his daughter. If the world dealt him a completely different hand of cards, Rudo would opt to be a teacher or a performing artist. His single biggest indulgence is buying art and hardware and he is happiest when he is putting his ideas to paper.
