Show profile Hide profileI finish my bachelor's degree in BSc Food Science in the beginning of November 2009 at the University of Stellenbosch.
HACCP training: While studying at US I did a HACCP course and passed.
I am currently a Junior Cosmetic Scientist in the cosmetics industry at Environ Skin Care in Kenilworth.
Due to various leadership opportunities I acquired the ability to communicate better with people in order to lead them to accomplish the successful final product of a given objective. I also learned to work with people of different backgrounds and to delegate each specific task to the person best seated for it and in doing that got all the team members to take part.
I currently have a team of 25 personnel that I work with on a daily basis and although it is challenging to deal with people from different backgrounds it is enjoyable to meet and get to know more people.
My studies at University forced me to learn at a faster pace to be effective and to plan ahead, to ensure all my projects are handed in time, without letting my friends and family become less important. Thus I also learn how important balance is in order to be as successful as possible.
At Vinpac I also take on some of the production planning and ordering of dry material needed for production. I also discovered that I am very good at taking stock and organization of the storing facilities.
I have knowledge on the following industries within the food industry: the dairy industries (eg. the production of cheese and yogurt and the processing and preservation of milk), the meat industry (eg. effective slaughtering of animals and the correct way of cutting a animal carcass), the canning industry (like canned peaches) and the wheat industry (eg. the different kinds of grains and the determination of percentage yield).
I have experience in different chemical (like measuring of pH of a product), Biochemical (like protein isolation and amino acid order analysis) and Microbiological processes as well as the completing of other food-related experiments.
I also have knowledge on and training and experience in the implementation of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP (Hazard Analysis en Critical Control Points) system, as well as ISO and BRC standards.
I am very good at communicating with all kinds of people and enjoy talking in public and prepared seminars, the reason for this is the fact that I adopt very easily as well as had a lot of opportunities to be a speaker of different events.
Recently though I have discovered that I prefer working in smaller groups of people rather than groups consisting of more than 20 people, but I still adapt to fit my environment.
Information management
I am trained to be able to do (or train someone ells to) and design statistical experiments to give data and to analyse it in order to make statistical conclusions.
