Show profile Hide profileI was employed at The New Age newspaper (based in Johannesburg, SA) for two years as a content editor/re-writer of news stories, features, opinion pieces, entertainment and all other articles the daily paper carried. Based on my journalism experience (travel, lifestyle and human interest) I also wrote travel pieces for the newspaper on an ad hoc basis. I resigned at the end of August (2012) to move to Cape Town, where I am looking to secure a permanent job as a feature writer, content editor or wordsmith-oriented position.
Self-employed and previous employment era synopsis:
* Content editing and large chunks of rewriting for new authors, which at times included virtually ghost-writing autobiographies. Other genres included fiction (based on actual life stories), adventure, motivational and investment-opportunity oriented, to name a few. I would also serve as a mentor as well as providing advice to the respective authors about the ins and outs of promoting their book. I also provided editing and writing services for the business sector, NGOs and copy for websites.
* Media consultancy: Based on my journalistic experience and in television and talk radio (Radio 702 and hosting shows on a Johannesburg-based community station) where my position included determining which topics to tackle each day and the sourcing of relevant guests, not to mention create a balance with input from opposing commentators, I provided clients with media consultancy services. That is, pursuing all avenues to gain editorial exposure, as opposed to conventional advertising or advertorial.
* Television production: I have produced, directed, scripted and (where relevant) narrated innumerable TV programmes, series and documentaries, including in-studio talk shows, current affairs, social and gender issues, election coverage and holistic and spiritual, just to name a few genres.
* Talk radio: I worked for Radio 702 as a news reader and news writer before producing the John Berks talk show for a few years. That included being a 'side-kick' on the early breakfast segment of his show -- ie before the hardline interview segments. I was also instrumental in securing Berks' M-NET TV series, "The John Berks show", and co-produced it while still working for the radio station. I produced John Robbie's talk show for seven months before leaving the station to produce a 39-episode TV series for the SABC, a co-production, called Sex Talk.
VOICE-OVER ARTIST AND NARRATOR
I have been doing voice overs for more than 10 years -- for television and radio ads, including promos and station ID's, as well as narrating scripts for TV programmes (most programmes of which I conceived, produced, directed and packaged). I also do voice work for corporate videos, multi-media productions and audio books. For samples please visit the Voice Bank at www.voicebank.co.za and type my name in the 'search for artist' box.
