Show profile Hide profileIt is often been said that "It's only through hardship and tough times that one's strength and resilience comes to the fore". Indeed this has been the case with Mmaphuthelo Elvis Sekhaolelo - a really extraordinary young man with remarkable mettle. Through his passion he has been involved in numerous organizations, businesses and leadership positions that are driven by youth for the development of YOUTH's Economic and Social landscape.
LEADERSHIP and INITIATIVES CREATED
Elvis' leadership was harnessed within the Black Management Forum Student Chapter (BMF SC). Some of his highlights within the BMF SC were his initiatives to instill entrepreneurial acumen in students by organizing some of the biggest series of Entrepreneurship events for the Western Cape students/youth called 'Iketsetse Entrepreneurship Series'.
He later was elected Provincial Chairperson of the Western Cape BMF SC where he doubled membership in a year, opened 3 more branches in the Western Cape, two of the branches under his leadership (University of Cape Town - UCT and Cape Peninsula University of Technology - CPUT) were awarded BMF Student Chapter of the year award and 1st runner up respectively at the coveted BMF Annual Awards event. In the same year he co-founded the BMF SC Student Manager of the Year Award in the Western Cape. As a Provincial Chairperson Elvis was also a National Executive member of the BMF SC.
Through his student career at the University of Cape Town Elvis also co-founded The Enterprise Forum - One of the biggest think-tank forum on student entrepreneurship and advancement of student enterprise on campuses. He served as the Vice President at this Forum. The Enterprise Forum then later revived the Student in Free Enterprise Organization on campus (UCT SIFE).
He went further to be Co-Founding Director of the first ever 'franchised' Student Business Networks - which successfully makes referrals and networking more conducive for student businesses.
All of this got him nominated for the 'Most Outstanding Leader in a student Organization" at the Pick n Pay Student Leadership yearly Awards 2008.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Elvis was selected as one of the few initial member of the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum - Johannesburg Hub. This new community provide youth with the global platform to shape the future - integrating the personal, community and global dimension. In 2009 he was named 'One of the Brightest Young Minds in SA'; named one of Africa's Young Leaders in 2010 and Leadership Magazine named him one of tomorrow's leaders in 2011. He was selected in the top 15 for the SAB Kickstart Entrepreneurship programme in 2010.
ACADEMICS
Elvis is currently doing his part time degree in commerce majoring in Economics at the University of South Africa. He has an Executive Development Programme in Foundations of Business from the Stellenbosch Business School in Association with the Louis Group Business Academy. He envisions learning more in the economic and entrepreneurship field to be well equipped to solve some of South Africa's growth, unemployment, education and developmental issues.
