Show profile Hide profileMy career in South Africa started in 1981 at Kodak South Africa as a sales represented and shortly after as the Special Accounts Manager at Trimark Agencies
I moved to Panasonic in 1985 where, in the ten years that I spent there, I progressed from Product Manager, to Group Product Manager and later through to Marketing Manager (FMCG). During this time I was able to develop a full set of marketing and business functional abilities from product management of brown, white and FMCG goods through to an in-depth understanding of ATL campaigns and brand development in media and advertising.
From 1995 to 1999 I was employed at the Expo Centre (Nasrec) as the Marketing and Sales Manager. I was also requested to be the Exhibition Manager for the Rand Easter Show, responsible for the 1997-9 shows.
I joined the telecommunications industry in 1999 with Vodacom, initially as the Brand Manager for Teljoy Cellular Services and then as the Retail Merchandising Development Manager with Vodacom. In December 2001 I was appointed as Retail Brand Manager. Here I was able to gain a considerable insight into retail marketing and consumer purchasing habits
In April 2002 I was employed by MTN an up until August 2008 I was the Retail Marketing Manager responsible for all aspects of consumer retail communications both above and below the line. This encompassed responsibility for all elements of communications from media, promotional, retail point of sale, collateral, packaging, store design, as well as the retail execution across TV, radio, press, outdoor, in-store, and eventing.
From August 2008 to August 2010 I was seconded to the MTN FIFA sponsorship team where I was responsible for the activations and hospitality programs - During this time I developed the full bouquet of activations around the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009 , the Final Draw in Cape Town and of course the FIFA World Cup finals themselves.
The activations for the finals included over 850 public viewing events across 10 official FIFA sites and the 32 sites specifically developed by MTN There is no doubt that this was the most extensive and recognised activations campaign in South Africa for this event and surpassed those of any other sponsor.
The hospitality program was one of the largest in the history of any of the FIFA World Cups and involved over 28,000 guests spread over all 64 matches - the level of hospitality was noted as being the best amongst the other FIFA Sponsors.
At SAB Miller I was the the Merchandising Strategy Manager responsible for developing the independent retail merchandising strategies and executions for each of the brands. This has encompassed all aspects of retail theater and merchandising items.
For the past year I have been consulting to a number of organisations from Incentive Management and Motor Vehicles
