Show profile Hide profileJolene graduated from Tshwane University of Technology with a Bachelors's Degree in Film and Television Production (2011). She was accepted into the SABC Television Operations Internship Programme from April 2012 - January 2013, thereafter she freelanced as an EVS operator for SABC Sport.
In June 2013 she had the opportunity to work with renowned filmmakers and conservationists, Dereck and Beverly Joubert. She joined their team as an assistant editor at Wildlife Films under the mentorship of Candice Odgers. In 2015, Jolene started cutting her first documentary feature, Tribe vs Pride (2017), which won the Special Jury Award at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival 2017 (Wyoming, USA). She was also awarded a South African Film and Television Awards (2019) for Best Achievement in Editing - Documentary Feature. In 2019 she completed a 4 part series Okavango: River of Dreams. Jolene was the episode editor for Chapters 1 and 2, and the series editor of all four chapters. Before moving on to her next project, Jolene edited a special director's cut of the Okavango series, combining all 3 episodes into a 94min feature version which was screened at the Sundance Film Festival 2020. In 2020, she completed Jade Eyed Leopard (narrated by Jeremy irons). The final film was delivered in June and kicked off Big Cat Week on NatGeo Wild on the 7th of September 2020 and was nominated for 2 EMMYS in 2021 (Outstanding Nature Documentary and Outstanding Sound Design).
In July 2020, Jolene decided to take a break from fixed frame projects and took on a new challenge, Virtual Reality, and Immersive Storytelling. Driven by her passion for impact-driven stories, this was the ideal opportunity for her to learn about this new platform of storytelling using advanced technology. She was offered the head of post-production at Habitat XR, a South African-based company that specializes in nature and conservation immersive storytelling.
At Habitat XR Jolene edited both 360 monoscopic and stereoscopic content. One of the highlights was editing 2 x 44 minute 180 degrees monoscopic film titled "Nature in Motion" which showcased in Oculus Venues. She also had the honor to edit the first 360 cinema piece for the new Dian Fossey Campus in Rwanda.
After more than a year of learning this new format, her heart longed to return to editing traditional fixed-frame documentaries. In July 2021, she joined forces with her mentor, Candice Odgers, and officially joined the Think Lemonade Productions team.
