Show profile Hide profileMarried with 4 children, 2 adult boys and now 2 girls aged 4 and 5 who keep me balanced and motivated.
Have lived most of my life in KZN until 12 years ago and since then had a great time living in Rotterdam in the Netherlands for 4 years and then coming back to South Africa and living in the most progressive and cosmopolitan city in Africa - Johanneburg.
Grew up in the struggle era and had myself banned from two mainstream unvisited without any academic success but this grounded me for ever. Have a BCompt hons from Unisa through part time study and was lucky to serve articles with Cooperrs and Lybrand and land a really great career opportunity in 1990 with Lever Brothers, part of the Unilever group and never looked back for 14 years.
Great progress and experience ensued in this great people development business with me being afforded the opportunity to lead a study to develop strategy for supply in Africa for detergents through to heading up a merger that required a re-implementation of SAP in Lever Ponds - as project leader of Project Fusion. Met my wife then we we married and I was posted to head office in the Netherlands in my first Executive role as VP Finance and Strategy.
Was part of a small global team appointed by Unilever to sort out is Ice cream and frozen foods business that was heamorraging from a lack of growth and margin deterioration. Worked with Robert Polet with my main responsibility to develop the strategy the restructuring of this €8billion business and ensure its successful execution! With this completed after 4 years I was keen to return back home to SA and after experiencing the politics of being an executive in an Anglo Dutch business was keen to join a SA corporation.
Joined SAB Miller in Johannesburg as a senior manager heading up Financial Services so that I could learn the difference between Ice cream and beer.
