In 1994, South Africans elected their first democratic government, and Garth opened Orange Juice Design, which became one of South Africa’s best-known graphic design studios and one of the very few with an international reputation. In time, OJ was acquired by advertising giant Ogilvy South Africa as its premium design brand. In 2008, Garth has once again gone solo with a new studio, Mister Walker.

Garth trained as a graphic designer in Durban, South Africa, in the mid-1070s and it was at art school that he developed an unhealthy obsession with photography, an addiction to which he remains dependent. His design magazine iJusi (from the Zulu for juice), which began as a magazine to showcase Orange Juice and has since become something of an institution, continues to be produced with collaborations across all media.

Garth has spoken at over 30 conferences on five continents and has been MC and keynote speaker at every SA design event worth its sale, including the first 10 Design Indabas.
