×Brian Mason
My skills in video editing include both offline and online editing, as well as creating productions from start to finish - whether it be conceptualisation and storyboarding, or directing and editing.
I am in the process of increasing my skill levels in animation, as I wish to become an excellent, all-round video editor.
Show profile Hide profileI started out in video after coming from a career as a Direct Marketing Strategist. Despite gaining great respect and high praise in the industry (SA's Young Direct Marketer of the Year 2009/10), I felt that a life of video was more his pace.
Bursting onto the scene not even a year later, I was placed as a Runner-up in General Post's national "South Africa's Next Top Editor" competition - narrowly missing the top spot by less than 1%!
From this amazing platform,I've gone from strength to strength. In his first real outing, I have conceptualised, storyboarded, directed and edited (offline and online) the music video "Music Affair" for the chart-topping band, The Graeme Watkins Project. The video reached #2 on MK's countdown and remained in that position for several weeks - a feat that has helped the band earn a nomination for "Best Newcomer Band" in the MK awards.
This resulted in more work, directing, scripting and editing music videos and EPK's for both Sergeant Fu and The Graeme Watkins Project
I then went on to Direct, Produce and Edit the video "My Air" (a #1 single in SA) for the 2010 Idol's runner-up, Lloyd Cele. In between, I completed various editing projects, gaining high praise in each instance.
Next up was the broadcast environment, where I have worked as an Editor (both offline and online) for a channel on TopTV. The shows included ranged from cooking shows, to talk shows, docu-dramas to weekly music countdowns. Additionally, in his first 6 months, I was put in charge of all the channel's promotional content!
Subsequently, this work helped I caught the eye of Gerhard Gouws - an international producer based in Canada. Gerhard commissioned Brian to assist in creating a trailer for his upcoming film, The Seder, soon to be entered into the Toronto Film Festival
Next up is a role as an animator - this work is soon to be rotated as an advert for CNN.
In addition to video, I have a wide-ranging list of hobbies and interests. Amongst the top 5, I enjoy adventure sports, travelling, sci-fi literature, testing my culinary skills as well as mythology.
Whatever it is, I am always highly interested and super keen to explore, understand and test new things!
