Journalism and Public Relations: Editing internet newsletters. Was Managing Editor of the Polokwane Observer from 2006 to 2009 where I was responsible for managing the news team, generating advertorial income, liaising with the advertising department and ensuring that the newspaper was profitable. Was Court Reporter, Durban Correspondent, Political Correspondent, News Editor and Assistant Editor of a national morning newspaper from 1963 to 1978. I then took a position as Public Relations Manager of the KwaZulu Development Corporation in 1979. I left the newspaper to get involved in rural development. I was later seconded to the KwaZulu Government where I founded a Bureau for Communication for that Government. In 1982 I accepted as position as Public Relations Manager of the KWV in Paarl, because I felt that I had fulfilled my mission at the KZN Government and wanted to broaden my own professional horizon. I left the KWV to start my own Public Relations Company in 1985 when the City Council of Paarl offered me the position of Festival Director for the Paarl 300 festival to celebrate the town's tercentenary on the understanding that I may also have other clients to supplement my income. At that time I was also Chairperson of the Paarl Publicity Association and wrote a weekly column in the Paarl Post. Among my clients were KWV, Groot Constantia, Fairview Wine Estate, Boeresake, Veekos and the Western Cape Agricultural Union. Was Convenor of the Panel of Judges for the Sanlam Competition for Enterprising Journalism for the Community Media for the past five years.
General Information: Won a National Award for Enterprising Journalism for national newspapers in 1978. Polokwane Observer won the award for the best community newspaper in South Africa while I was Managing Editor in 2008 and 2009. I was in the Top Ten for column writing (runner-up), financial journalism and leading articles (editorial comment).
Personal Characteristics: Hard-working, dedicated and results driven. Willing to work all hours until the job is done. Vigorous and inquisitive mind, but always willing to learn. Good team player who exercises discipline through encouraging self-responsibility among fellow team members.
Hobbies: Reading, Art, Music, Classic Cinema and Golf
