Desperately seeking romance writers
Anthony Ehlers, recently hosted a fun dinner for budding romance novelists. Here's what some of the Writers Write students came up with as absolute no-no's for the romantic lead in a modern romance novel:
A hero in a romance novel should never wear:
Speedos - unless he's Brazilian!
Shirts worn open to the navel
A wife-beater vest
G-strings or Tangas
Open-toed leather sandals
Wear a toupee
Earrings - unless he's an Arabian pirate!
A digital watch - a Tag Heuer will do
‘Vellies'
A Superman costume!
A hero in a romance novel should never:
Be less than six feet tall
Be bald
Have halitosis
Style his hair with a hairdryer
Have false teeth
Feel the cold - he gives her his jacket!
Be a vegetarian or a Buddhist
Be without a suntan
Have bad personal hygiene
Snore!
A hero in a romance novel should never:
Own less than two houses
Fly economy class
Collect stamps
Own a second hand car - unless it's a classic vintage!
Live with his mother - unless it's a castle in a fictitious kingdom!
Own Celine Dion CDs
Order his own flowers for the heroine - there's a secretary for that!
Own a badly painted portrait of himself.
Smoke - unless it's a cigar
Jump on talk show hosts' sofas!
