BBC.com launches mobile advertising
The international BBC mobisite has opened up another opportunity for advertisers to reach their target audience. The new service was announced on 10 March, 2009.
BBC.com, the BBC's international web site outside of the UK, has announced that it will be enabling advertising on http://bbc.mobi for the first time. With the rapid growth of the mobile Internet market, advertisers will now be able to increase their reach to BBC consumers and opt for specific devices and regions to connect with their target audience successfully.
The BBC has been providing award-winning news and sports coverage for mobile since 1999, using text, photos, audio and video to reach an information-hungry, on-the-move audience. Recent research has indicated there are 4 billion mobile phone subscriptions globally and predicts that 90% of the world will have access to mobile phone coverage in 2010*.
Kym Niblock, BBC.com's MD said: “This is a really important part of our strategy for BBC.com and I'm so pleased we can offer advertisers a new avenue to reach our audiences. The mobile Internet market is expanding rapidly as consumers increasingly desire immediate access to content on the move.”
BBC.com is run by BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial arm.
