Philips supports cancer awareness campaign
Stationed just outside the clinic, the PinkDrive's EduTruck gave both men and women from the community the opportunity to attend an educational talk as well as receive free breast cancer examinations and prostate testing.
"We encourage men and women to be screened for cancer, as early detection can help save their lives. Through community-based initiatives such as this one, Philips hopes to raise awareness and educate South Africans about cancers affecting men and women," says Jose Fernandes, district manager of Philips Healthcare Southern Africa.
Various services
Westbury is situated close to Sophiatown, with the clinic in the heart of the community, offering a number of services to the community, including family planning, curative services, child health, HIV counselling and testing, to name a few. Philips' head office is based nearby to the Westbury Clinic and therefore took great interest in bringing meaningful health education and care to its own, extended community.
"I am delighted that Philips partnered with City of Johannesburg Health to bring awareness and education to the Westbury community. By giving the community access to life-saving breast and prostate cancer examinations, Philips has supported the initiatives of the City of Johannesburg Health Department and illustrated how successful public and private partnerships work. We look forward to working together closely in the future and bringing meaningful healthcare solutions to communities in Johannesburg," says Virginia Mosime, manager of Health Programmes in Region B at the City of Johannesburg.
