The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway supports the NPO through donating supplies and cableway tickets to the learners on its programme. The cableway offers all learners the opportunity to participate in their Class in the Clouds programme, where lessons on natural fauna and flora are given to Grade 1-12 learners on top of Table Mountain.
Silikamva High is one of the schools that Bright Start partners with to host their outreach programme workshops. These workshops offer important life skills to parents on the Bright Start programme and from the surrounding communities. "The Bright Start team are extremely grateful to the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway for their continued support over the past years. This donation will certainly stand the learners at Silikamva High School in good stead," said Robyn Brown, Bright Start outreach programme facilitator.
"Silikamva is a wonderful venue with a superb group of teachers led by principal Angus Duffet, who try to make this school a place where the students want to be, where they want to hang out instead of going home to potentially face issues such as gangsterism, drugs and alcohol abuse."
Started in January 2013, Silikamva High, which means "we are the future", is a new public school predominantly serving the Imizamo Yethu community. The school currently teaches Grades 8 and 9, with an extension into Grade 10 coming in 2014.
