IP-CON discusses the future of security via technology

Security is big business. With the improvements in technology seen over the past few years, the ability to view high-quality, full-frame-rate video via IP has opened a world of opportunities for today's security professionals. In addition to the convenience of leveraging existing network infrastructures, video over IP can provide greater control, enhanced operational flexibility, improved administration, and expanded recording, archiving, and integration capabilities over traditional analogue video security systems.

Today's converging network technologies require increased bandwidth, quality of service for prioritised traffic, and the transmission of all IP-based technologies over a common network. Network video security systems must allow IT administrators to deploy, manage, and maintain their video security components at the same level and detail expected of advanced network appliances without compromising network integrity.

These are some of the benefits and features of IP video that will be discussed at the upcoming Miro IP-CON. Miro's technical experts will discuss the ins and outs of IP video, the move from CCTV to IP Video, as well as tips and tricks. Traditionally, the key benefits of IP cameras were considered to be the reuse of existing network technologies, the ability to distribute video over wide areas easily and, in the last few years, the growing availability of HD video. Today, there are many additional benefits to be gained with the introduction of smarter IP cameras that have the ability to record internally and provide several functions that would normally require a centralised system. Delegates at the IP-CON will be provided with the full overview of the benefits of IP video, in addition to drill-downs into specific areas of the technology.

Valuable insight into IP video

Vivotek and QNAP will also provide valuable insight into IP video, offering presentations into the tools and accessories needed in a system, as well as a look at the advantages of using a hardware NVR. Vivotek's seminar will look at getting started in IP Networking, an introduction to IP video and its benefits, and product selection for optimum results. QNAP will offer a look at central management for large surveillance systems (CMS), and innovative solutions for control rooms of any size.

Combining IP Video surveillance with wireless networks can provide a number of benefits, but there are still challenges associated with it. Miro therefore offers practical advice about what makes wireless a challenge for IP video and how to plan a wireless network for IP video. In addition, the company will provide expert advice on topics such as planning for different lighting conditions, light and its impact on IP video, as well as product selection.

"The benefits of using wireless networks with IP Video systems are clear and can sometimes be the only solution available for large or remote areas. However, the overall performance of the network and the surveillance system is very dependent on the performance, features and capability of the IP video system itself. Choosing the correct IP video technology that has good compression, the most suitable architecture and fully featured IP cameras is very important," explained Riandi van Niekerk, marketing manager of Miro.

"Our seminars at IP-CON will offer drill downs into all of these factors, and the exhibition stands will allow delegates to see the technology first-hand. Together, the presentations and the exhibition will provide a complete look at the latest and greatest solutions, as well as practical advice."
