Regent Business School and Indoni SA host a youth boot camp for social entrepreneurship

Indoni SA was officially launched in June 2011. Its mission is to fill the gap of addressing social issues with a strategic plan of action. The founder, Dr Nomcebo Mthembu, is assisted by other board members, leadership, staff and volunteers from across the country with various skills in arts, culture, heritage, education, skills, life and business mentorship. Indoni's programmes were established in response to various challenges observed among young people after the liberation of South Africa in 1994, inclusive of leadership and entrepreneurship.

Regent Business School, a higher education institution which has been in existence for the past 15 years, has through its outreach programme engaged with Indoni SA in delivering a one-day boot camp to empower youth in social entrepreneurship.

The Entrepreneurial Boot Camp will be held in response to major development challenges currently confronting the nation. The prime purpose of the camp is to empower the youth with entrepreneurial skills in the hope that the exercise will increase employment generation in the country, especially given that youth unemployment is a major lingering socio-economic challenge for South Africa.

A total of 181 participants from rural and urban areas will be participating in the event to be held on the 30th June 2015 at Merryvale in KwaZulu-Natal. At the camp, youth ranging in ages from 15 years to 25 years will learn about entrepreneurship, SMME development, idea generation, problem-solving, simple accounting practices, marketing techniques, management skills, financial strategies and presentation skills for launching a social enterprise.

The main goal is to introduce students to the concept of entrepreneurism and creative and innovative thinking. By the end of the day-long session, students will develop a skill set and have the basic knowledge about how to become a problem-solver and be able to come up with their own entrepreneurial ideas.

The camp features interactive lectures, team-building activities, hands-on research, networking and strategic planning.

Although a lot has been packed in the one-day event, we are confident that the youth will be at the ready to innovate and pick up on new ideas.

At the end of the session, the youth will be able to present their new entrepreneurship ideas before a panel of judges for a chance to win various prizes.
