Ramarope was nominated by Hilda Khunoana, a first-year chemical engineering student at UCT. Since 2005, the Stella Clark Teachers Award has acknowledged the work of exceptionally talented teachers - the unsung heroes who go beyond the call of duty to motivate and inspire their learners to perform well and rise above their poverty-stricken circumstances.

The award was established in honour of Stella Clark, an extraordinary University of Cape Town lecturer from the CHED's Academic Development Programme who died in 2005. Her husband, Professor Kevin Naidoo, a UCT chemistry professor, and their children established the award to recognise Clark's many years of dedicated service to teaching and mentoring students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
