The main difference in the new packaging designs is the inclusion of a subtly graduated gold panel to hold the Twinings name style. The panel is set between white trim on a background colour that is a richer shade of the previous version - red for English Breakfast and pale yellow for Earl Grey. Twinings' research shows consumers have a strong preference for the new designs, which give the packs far more presence on supermarket shelves.
The company's English Breakfast Tea is a traditional English blend of Ceylon and Indian teas, and it dates back to Edwardian days at the turn of the 20th century, when breakfast was an indulgent feast. Earl Grey dates back to the early nineteenth century, when England's second Earl Grey was presented with this exquisite recipe by Twinings, who then introduced the original blend to tea drinkers all over the world.
