Woman Against Rape benefits from music charity evening
WAR, started by Janine Rowley in 2000, establishes trauma centres in various police stations for rape victims, to which Rowley delivers ‘comfort parcels,' including basic toiletries as well as comforting items such as a teddy and some sweets. WAR then assists rape victims by supplying a counsellor and arranging for medical treatment, sometimes with WAR carrying the costs. A beading project has started not only to raise needed funds but also to act as therapy and an income generator for abused women.
On the night of the music show, WAR jewellery will be on sale on the night and a collection bin for items for the comfort parcels - more details are on the website www.womanagainstrape.co.za. The evening starts at 8pm and tickets are R100 - booking is essential, contact the club on +27 (0) 12 664 5155.
