Touchline Media voted 34th best company to work for in South Africa!

The 5th annual Deloitte Best Company to Work For awards ceremony was held at the Gallagher estate in Midrand last week. Touchline Media was awarded 34th place out of 120 entrants. This is very encouraging considering the small size of the company and that it was the company's first ever participation in the event.

The 2004 winner was Microsoft SA, who displaced ABSA (two times consecutive winner for 2002 & 2003), followed by PPC (Pretoria Portland Cement), SA Breweries, Flight Centre and ABSA in 5th position. Touchline Media was the only publishing company to feature on this esteemed list.

The aim of these rankings is to identify companies that are best at attracting developing and retaining talent. It is the staff that count - with their votes accounting for 75% of the company's score. The employers vote then counts 15% and the wider market 10%. Employees complete questionnaires based on 10 main dimensions: change management; communication; diversity; job satisfaction; leadership; management information; policies; management of rewards; recognition and performance; relationships and training and development.

The main risk involved in entering this survey is that companies face the very real possibility of serious criticism due to the honest opinions and information received from their staff. If they don't like what they see it still gets printed. Touchline Media put themselves in the firing line by entering this competition, but could not have asked for a better result.

"To beat well-respected and massive corporations such as Standard Bank, Unilever, Barloworld, Liberty Life, Rennies Travel, Safmarine, BAT and a host of other 120 companies that entered, was an incredible accomplishment. Furthermore, to be in the 'company' of the top and most respected, successful and powerful corporations in South Africa was another wonderful feather in our modest cap, said Touchline Media MD & CEO, Marc Blachowitz.

"Our 34th position clearly demonstrates that we're doing a whole lot right, and certainly leading the way in the publishing arena in SA. We will use this survey and the feedback that we will receive to further invest in our company, further develop our people and continue to strive to be the best and most desirable place to work."
