Not even a chicken bone from Nando's

Fast food chain Nando's is a little miffed with DStv after the pay-TV channel didn't flight the chain's "xenophobia" ad - but is now prepared to after the ASA ruled in favour of the ad. Basically, Nando's has given DStv a cold drumstick saying that if you weren't prepared to flight it the first time round, we're not going to flight the ad now on your service.

Never underestimate the global branding power of generic names writes Naseem Javed, after his ABC Namebank applied its Name Evaluation Process to the entire list of 1930 proposed ICANN gTLD names.

Good news for clubs, schools and other entities that stage film shows is the arrival in SA of an umbrella licensing arrangement for showing of films. The Motion Picture Licensing Company International's (MPLC) umbrella licence enables businesses and organisations - including clubs, lodges, factories, libraries and schools - to pay an annual fee, which covers them for the use of all the content of its affiliated producers.

Take a look at the latest Ornico ad showcase.

Jane Raphaely: sugar and spice with "lots of salty bits too"
[Gill Moodie: @grubstreetSA] If you're in media today in South Africa, it is well worth getting the autobiography of Jane Raphaely, the trailblazer who made Fairlady a publishing phenomenon by taking it to 216 000 circulation (fortnightly and in 500-page issues nogal!) in the 1980s, and then struck out on her own to bring Cosmopolitan to SA and build the very successful Associated Magazines. Published last week, the book - Jane Raphaely unedited - is fascinating and fun, suffused with her moxie, offering a unique insight into the evolution of magazines and media in this country from the 1960s.
